Shelby Kaenel grew up in a family that loved sports and musical theater, and her passion for both of these collaborative disciplines led her to a career where she could help and care for people involved in a wide spectrum of activities.
Kaenel began by teaching herself to tape her own ankles after suffering a severe sprain in a basketball game. This sparked her interest in Athletic Training, and with a college basketball scholarship she was able to pursue AT as a career.
She received her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology: Exercise Science at Cal Poly Pomona, then went on to get her Master’s in Athletic Training at Chapman University. While at Chapman she got the chance to work clinical rotations at Mt SAC, Villa Park HS, AB Miller HS, University of Redlands, and even a short internship with the Los Angeles Lakers.
These venues allowed her to work with a lot of very different athletes and has shaped the career path that brought her to Oceanside and joined the Pirate Family in 2018. She’s a Board-Certified Athletic Trainer and honored to be a part of the Pirate family where she can take care of your children. In her free time she decorates for weddings, crafts a ton of DIY projects, and still hums a lot of showtunes.
