After more than 100 days away from the fields and courts, Oceanside High School will begin its summer sports programs, following the guidelines set by various government agencies.
Beginning on Monday, June 22, the Pirates will have workouts in the following sports: football, baseball, girls volleyball, and cheer leading. The players and coaches are following guidelines set forth by the CIF and school district.
“Thanks to the leadership and counsel of Deputy Superintendent Dr. (Shannon) Soto, we were able to come up with a plan that fits our student-athletes and coaches,” said OHS Athletic Director Brad Hollingsworth. “Using the CIF guidelines and compiling our own phases, we believe we will keep everyone safe and healthy for the foreseeable future.”
Before each workout, all students will have their temperatures taken and answer a short questionnaire. Then, during the workouts, equipment will be constantly cleaned by players and coaches. In addition, everyone will have to be wearing a face covering, as well as maintaining proper social distancing. The workout groups will be set at 10 players and one coach, and they must be cohorted together for the entire practice.
