Pirates News · Hansen wins first two matches at state wrestling tourney

It must have been the send-off that put Oceanside High School’s Shane Hansen in a great frame of mind as he entered the CIF CIF State Wrestling Tournament Thursday at the Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield.

With a tunnel of classmates wishing him luck, Hansen, as well as coaches Dustin Long and James Sosa, made the four-hour trip to Bakersfield on Wednesday morning with the hopes of setting a few more milestones. Hansen didn’t disappoint as he defeated Angel Serrano by technical fall (24-9) in the first round of the 195-pound weight class. The senior made quick work of Kalen West of Oak Ridge with a pin at the 4:35 mark.

The No. 8-seeded Hansen is scheduled to face No. 1 Guillermo Escobedo of Los Altos in the winner’s bracket quarterfinals.
