For only the second time in the past 20 years, the Oceanside High School girls water polo is advancing in the CIF-San Diego Division III playoffs.
The No. 10-seed Pirates made the long trip to Southwestern College worth it as they down Chula Vista, 7-3, in first-round action late Tuesday night.
Senior Bella Nance played perhaps her best game at OHS, scoring four goals, while Alia Franczyk, Aliya Bennet and Isabella Chacon each had one goal. Defensively, goalie Morgan Serafin recorded 16 saves and had three steals, while Franczyk had a team-high four steals.
With the victory, the Pirates advance to the quarterfinals, where they will play Santa Fe Christian at 7;45 p.m. Friday at Coogan Pool, which is located on the campus of La Jolla High School.
