Pirates News · Boys Soccer conquers SoCal High School Classic

Celebrating its 25th year in the SoCal High School Classic, the No 4-ranked Oceanside boys soccer team brought home the gold, instead of silver, with a 3-0 victory over Kofa (Yuma, AZ) in the finals of the Showcase West Division at Oceanside High School.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead with 14:40 left in the first half when George Silva went down the right side and found Jose Aguirre who settled the pass and fired a shot into the back of the net from 15 yards out. Just six minutes later, Javier Camargo launched a corner kick that Silva one-touched to Lee Soelberg who converted on the play for a 2-0 lead.

Camargo added the final goal in the second half.

In the semifinals, the Pirates defeated Eastlake, 3-2, storming back from a two-goal deficit. Kevin Rubio cut the Titans’ lead to 2-1 just before halftime with his first goal of the season. Silva’s header at the 11-minute mark knotted the match at 2-2. Late in the second half, Aguirre found Ivan Rodriguez just outside the goalie’s box for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
