After more than sixth months of negotiations, Oceanside High School has reached a three-year partnership with Eastbay/Nike, which makes the Pirates the first public school in San Diego County to have such an agreement.
“Branding our school was one of my top priorities in my first year,” said athletic director Brad Hollingsworth. “This gives us a great chance to be at an elite level when it comes to uniforms, spirit wear, and coach and teacher apparel.”
Eastbay is an American supplier of athletic footwear, apparel and sports equipment, which sells by direct mail. Since 1997, it has been the direct-to-mail division of the F. W. Woolworth Company, now known as Foot Locker, Inc.
Eastbay is Nike’s largest client at $2.4 billion in sales with the Beaverton, Oregon-based company. Hollingsworth believes branding OHS is the first step into making the Pirates a major player in the retail market.
“We have a lot of alumni who have wanted this for a long time,” he said. “This allows us to expand our footprint to past, present, and future Pirates around the country. Now, the ‘Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate” theme can be reached with a variety of apparel.”
By the beginning of next school year, Oceanside will have a fully functioning online store that enable Pirates from around the country to represent the “O.”
