The Oceanside High School softball team will carry its big bats into the CIF Division III playoffs after a 13-3 demolishing of El Camino Friday afternoon in the regular season finale.
With the victory, the Pirates (15-8-1 overall) earned second place in the Avocado League East with a 7-3 record and the No. 6 seed in the playoffs.
On Tuesday, Oceanside will host Point Loma in a play-in game. The Pointers defeated the Pirates, 8-6, in the season-opener for both schools.
If the Pirates is to advance in the playoffs, they will rely on its powerful lineup and steady defense in their quest for the second CIF title in school history. Third baseman Jordan Belew (.484/4 HRs/25 RBI) and second baseman Shaylene Fuimaono (.480/4 HRs/21 RBI) lead the lineup that scored the most runs in the Avocado League East. In addition, Shaylene Fuimoano was the team leader in runs with 36. Julia Ceballos Rivera hit .444 with 25 runs scored, while Bree Fuimaono hit .406 with 24 RBI.
It doesn’t stop there for the Pirates. Center fielder Namie Fuimanao hit .378 and scored 28 runs from the lead-off spot and Outfielder Ashley Tuggle drove in 24 runs and shortstop Samarah Martinez scored 25 runs.
On the mound, Samantha Ruiz was the league’s top pitcher with a .85 ERA and Ceballos Rivera recorded a team-high 40 Ks.
