The Oceanside High softball team has sputtered like a car in dire need of a tuneup when it comes to hitting and run production so far this season.
It only took a 350-mile road trip to get the Pirates running smoothly as they smashed Calexico, 11-1, in game called after six innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Sophomore Shaylene Fuimaono led the way, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI. Her cousin, Namie Fuimaono, had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Third baseman Jordan Belew went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Taseja Paopao walked twice and drove in a run.
On the mound, Ashley Tuggle got the win, striking out five. At the plate, the junior wasn’t too shabby either, collecting a pair of hits and two RBI.
